Worlds biggest smartphone to be unveiled in Dubai today

19 May 2013

Huawei claims its 6.1-inch Ascend Mate is the world’s biggest smartphone.

The Armani Hotel at Burj Khalifa in Dubai will be the venue for the launch of what Chinese manufacturer Huawei claims to be the world’s biggest smartphone.

Official invites sent out for tonight’s event claimed that the 6.1 inch Huawei Ascend Mate to be the world’s largest smartphone.

The claim only holds good if the Chinese manufacturer is making it based on the smartphones existing in the market. Samsung last month announced its Galaxy Mega, which at 6.3 inches is 0.2 inches bigger than the Ascend Mate.

While the Ascend Mate is already available and is priced at an online store for $521 (Dh1,910), Samsung’s Galaxy Mega has been delayed. The phone was originally scheduled to be launched in mid May, but is yet to be released.

The Ascend Mate was first showcased at the CES in January 2013 and has a 720×1280 pixels display, a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, expandable memory of up to 32GB, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1-megapixel front camera.

It is the battery capacity of the Ascend Mate that rally caught attention. With 4050mAh battery, the smartphone can provide 48 hours of continuous power.
