Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to be announced on August 15

24 Jul 2012

Latest reports have confirmed recent rumours surrounding the announcement of Samsung's much-awaited Galaxy Note II. BGR.in has now confirmed that the successor to the Galaxy Note will be announced on August 15, during the company's press conference. Over the past few days, there has been a lot of talk about the 2012 edition of the Galaxy Note and most of the rumours indicate that it will have a larger display compared with its predecessor, the Galaxy Note, which boasted of a large 5.3-inch screen. Another feature of the smartphone that has been under much speculation is its optics. Initial rumours from previous reports indicated that it would feature either an 8 MP or a 12 MP rear shooter. The rumours surrounding the camera, however took a different turn when reports surfaced stating that the camera on the Galaxy Note 2 may be a 13MP one.

Here’s what we expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to feature:
5.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with a 1680 × 1050
4G LTE, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC
GPS possibly with GLONASS and A-GPS support
Bluetooth possible v4.0 with USB and hopefully USB-on-the-go
12/ 13 megapixel AF/Touchfocus camera with full HD video recording and playback
A front facing camera for video calls and chats
Possibly a 64 GB edition, along with 16 GB and 32 GB versions all with expandable support
MHL for AV out

Interestingly, a couple of days ago, we had reported about a leaked benchmark surfacing of what appeared to be the Galaxy Note II being given the GLBenchmark treatment. It appears that the device codenamed GT-N7100 features a quad-core processor clocked at 1.6 GHz.

Earlier reports have also indicated that the next generation Galaxy Note is expected to feature the Pen-tile matrix display instead of the RGB variant used in the S II. Apart from the screen size, the design is said to be heavily inspired from the Galaxy S III, so we can expect a similar form factor with heavily rounded edges and a pebble-like design. If the Note II is indeed modeled around the S III, then there is a good chance that the phone will get some or all of the ‘S’ features like S Beam, Smart Stay eye tracking, Smart Voice, etc.
