LG unveils white Nexus 4, says no plans for for Nexus 5

06 Jun 2013

The white variant of the popular smartphone will roll out to select markets over the next several weeks.

The white Nexus 4 will be available in a number of weeks.

LG unveiled on Tuesday a white version of its blockbuster Nexus 4, while an executive nixed plans for a sequel device.
An LG executive told Dutch Web site All About Phones that it has no plans to build the Nexus 5, citing Kim Wong, head of LG’s Europe business. The report was translated by Android Beat.

An LG representative confirmed the executive comments, but noted that the company wouldn’t rule out another Nexus in the future. The representative said that the executive intended to convey the belief at LG that it didn’t need the Nexus name to build its own brand.
The white Nexus 4, meanwhile, will come out in select markets in Asia, North America, Europe, and the Middle East over the next several weeks.
Google’s latest flagship smartphone, which features Android 4.2, also known as Jelly Bean, has been a hit for the search giant and LG, which has struggled to reach the same heights as rivals Samsung Electronics and Apple. The Nexus 4, however, has been a source of buzz for the company.
The original Nexus 4 was a hot seller and LG and Google couldn’t initially satisfy demand for the phone, which was sold at $249.99 without a contract through the Google Play store. The low no-contract price and pure Android experience made for an appealing product.
“Nexus 4 White delivers the same Google experience to consumers in a stylish and attractive color option,” said LG Mobile CEO Jong-seok Park in a statement.
