Google converts Samsung Galaxy S4 into a Nexus phone

18 May 2013

Online search giant Google will strip the newly launched and hottest selling Samsung Galaxy S4 of all of the South Korean manufacturers’ software and turn it into a Nexus smartphone, the search engine announced at the ongoing Google I/O 2013 event yesterday.

The Googlised Galaxy S4 will run on stock Android, devoid of any and all overlays that Samsung has added, and retail the essentially Nexus phone for $649 (Dh2,399).

According to the announcements of Google’s brand new partnership with Samsung, the unlocked Samsung Galaxy S4 will be coming to the Google Play Store on June 26, 2013.

The phone will essentially be born of a Google-Samsung one-night stand (although the courtship period may get extended). The Galaxy S4 features coupled with Google’s stock software seem like a win-win proposition to us.

Google will the Googlised Samsung Galaxy S4 directly through Google Play with an unlocked bootloader, stock Android experience, LTE support, connectivity on AT&T and T-Mobile, with a ‘Nexus experience,’ and as a device that will receive updates promptly, it was announced.

Whether or not this device will be available in countries outside the US is still to be known.
